I have a collection of vintage black & white glass plate negatives and color diapositives. Glass was the main carrier for the negative emulsion until the 1920s. What most people don't know is that glass was also used for creating positive images. This mainly concerned glass slides that could be viewed with a stereoscope or projected with a magic lantern. Scanning glass plate negatives and positives comes with some challenges.

I have been using Adobe Lightroom for processing and archiving my photos since the first version came out in 2007. I use the desktop version, known today as Adobe Lightroom Classic. Although Adobe struggles to keep the performance of the software at an acceptable level, Lightroom is still my editor of choice. Some of the vintage photographs in my collection are in bad shape. Careless handling of the photos or bad conservation have affected the images. It's a nice challenge to digitally restore these images and try to bring them back to their original state and make a print.

In 2012 I switched from a Canon Pro 9500 to an Epson R3000 printer and today I'm printing with an Epson SC-P600. The main reason was an extra gray ink and Epson's Advanced Black & White mode. The switch proved to be a good choice as the Epson printers create neutral, high quality black & white prints. A neutral black & white print contains gray tones without any visible colour casts, but neutral is also a matter of personal taste.
